AcneSeal BZ Gel is a fixed-dose combination product of topical retinoid with benzoyl peroxide, approved by the US FDA in December 2008 for the treatment of mild to moderate Acne and Acne Vulgaris as first line treatment.
AcneSeal BZ Gel was found significantly more effective as provided greater and synergistic efficacy and a faster onset of action with an acceptable safety profile in the treatment of acne vulgaris than Adapalene 0.1% gel or Benzoyl peroxide 2.5% gel alone. There was significant and greater reductions were seen in total, inflammatory, and noninflammatory lesion counts in patients receiving in combination (AcneSeal BZ Gel) than alone. AcneSeal BZ Gel has drying actions, sebostatic effects, and causes mild skin desquamation.
Mechanism of Action of AcneSeal BZ Gel : Adapalene and Benzoyl peroxide (BPO) are common topical agents in AcneSeal BZ Gel has drying actions, sebostatic effects, and causes mild skin desquamation used to treat mild-to-moderate acne vulgaris (AV) through multiple mechanisms, including keratinisation, comedolytic effect, anti-inflammatory effects and through bactericidal action against Propionibacterium acnes (P Acne) Which could be predominant organism in sebaceous follicles and comedons.
Indications : Mild to moderate Acne and Acne Vulgaris.
Dosages : AcneSeal BZ Gel to be applied to the affected areas of the face and trunk once daily after cleansing at bed time. Apply a pea-sized amount to each area of the face e.g, forehead, chin, each cheek.
Side effects : Commonly known side effects are Skin redness, Scaling, Dry skin, Contact dermatitis, Skin irritation, Stinging and Burning of mild and tolerable in nature.
Precautions :
Pregnancy : Adapalene and Benzoyl peroxide is classified as a pregnancy category C drug. There are no adequate and well controlled studies in pregnant women. AcneSeal BZ Gel should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the risk to the foetus.
